David P. Usher Patrons' Choice Award
The Greenwich Workshop believes that the demand for an artist in the
original art market is reflected in the demand for that artist’s Fine
Art Limited Editions. The most collected artists and the most desired
originals often have a similar experience as Fine Art Limited Editions.
The Greenwich Workshop’s Family of Artists is comprised of those who
are at the top of the originals market and Morgan Weistling is a
perfect example.
Western Art Collector describes Weistling’s
The First Dance as “his signature work, an
absolute master work.” It won both the Booth Museum of Western Art
Artists’ Choice Award and the David P. Usher Patrons’ Choice Award at
the Autry National Center’s 2008 Masters of the American West
Exhibition and Sale for the second year running. As the icing on the
cake, the painting sold for $286,100—nearly three times the reserve
price! With nine of Weistling’s last eleven Fine Art Limited Editions
either Sold Out or in Low Inventory, The
First Dance will prove to be just as
significant a release.
“I wanted to celebrate the institution of marriage,” says Weistling.“I
have been married to my lovely wife JoAnn for 17 years. I thought of
the commitment we made in front of family and friends and what a
wonderful feeling it would be to do a painting about that.”
The idea for the painting, which had begun in a sketchbook drawing
years ago, took years to come to fruition. In addition to finding the
perfect models, costumes and composition, Morgan did not want to begin
on the painting unless he could give it his full concentration. The
Masters proved the ideal venue for the concept.
In this issue of Catalogue you will find many works that were unveiled
at the Autry, Stars Over Tucson, The Coeur D’Alene Art Auction, The
Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West Art Show and Sale as well as a
selection of miniature art from SmallWorks North America™. The
Greenwich Workshop brings you the most significant works from today’s
most collected artists.
