Pow-Wow Singer by James Bama
Pow-wow participants pride themselves on the finest of regalia, particularly
for the dances and parades. In their workday lives, the participants may
be clerks in a supermarket or gas station attendants. For one day each
year, however, they are resplendent in buckskin and beadwork, in bright
feathers and blankets more colorful than were known by the ancestors they
revere and whose image they set out to create. This evocative piece follows
on the heels of Bama's wildly successful
Pow-Wow Dancer, which is Sold Out at Publisher.

Cassandra Barney's portraits of women eloquently celebrate life's passages
and journeys. Rich with symbolism both ancient and modern, (Re)Genesis
explores the cycle of personal growth, particularly the way life can teach
us the same lessons over and over as we age. As the vine arcs above the
woman and her stag its red flowers burst into bloom and fade again, like
lovely reminders of the impermanence of thought.

"The planet Earth seemed a long way off in this scene," says
Alan Bean, "because it was-about a quarter of a million miles, in
fact. From the Moon, the Earth appeared as a beautiful blue-and-white
marble with occasional small orange areas, which were deserts.
"The Moon itself was a foreboding place when viewed from orbit, mostly
gray with stark, angular mountains and deep, rough canyons and craters.
It was as if nature had pounded it again and again with a big, big hammer.
"In contrast, our Earth was beautiful-all shiny and bright. It was
hard to believe that everybody I had ever known-or seen on TV-and the
places they lived and played were all on that little blue-and-white marble.
Even today, it's still hard to believe."

The city of San Francisco has much to commend it; in addition to being
home to artist Will Bullas, it also boasts one of the most celebrated
bars in history. Maxfield's Bar, so called for its extraordinary décor
(The Pied Piper of Hamelin,
a mural by Maxfield Parrish), has consistently been named one of the best
bars in the country as well as the world. In addition to its spectacular
barside view, Will Bullas' rendition of the famed watering hole offers
a little something extra: service with a safari smile. These seasoned
bartenders serve up a bit of San Francisco chic with every drink and will
bring a cheerful, if unusual, touch to your bar, kitchen or restaurant.

"After the busy harvest time in the Alexander Valley the days get
shorter," says artist June Carey, "and the cool, crisp air and
autumn rains bring rich color to the vines and the new green grass between
the rows. I feel it is a time for the vineyards to show off after a long
season of hard work. This area in North Sonoma County is known for its
superior Cabernet Sauvignon."

"I love the Italian word for 'sunflower': girasole, from gira
(turn) and sole (sun). Last summer I went to Italy in the heart
of August so I could see the fields around my little home blooming in
a sea of gold. It had been a bad year for the girasoli and my friend Mauro
and I drove around trying to find a good field. Mauro even had to hold
up one sunflower's drooping head so I could take a good picture—I
guess even sunflowers have bad days! I hope to paint many more of their
smiling faces in the future."

In the fantastic world of James C. Christensen's paintings, fish are a
symbol of magic and wisdom. "Their floating presence in the air reminds
us that anything is possible," says Christensen, "and those
touched or surrounded by fish are considered truly blessed. When the fish
don't arrive, however, sometimes a person will take matters into his own
hands, with compelling but less-than-convincing results. Non-magical fish,
as you can see, don't really enjoy hanging in mid-air."

Relay Horses in camp, Crow fair 2000:
“August celebrations maintain the culture, in this age of incredible
change”
by Bob Coronato
"Crow Fair is a nearly hundred-year-old tradition," says Bob
Coronato, "held each August for the reunion of family clans and the
celebration of Crow Indian culture. I have attended Crow Fair for many
years and I'm always impressed with the singing, the relay horse races
and the thousands of tepees. The Crows fought governmental pressures to
change, and as a result being at the fair is like going back in time,
because their culture has been amazingly preserved. It's uplifting and
I look forward to it, year after year."

"I painted this very early one September morning in Massachusetts,"
says Don Demers. "The Bluefish River, a tidal river that runs through
the middle of town, was filled with catboats. These popular little boats
sail well in tidal waters because of their shallow draft. The early raking
light showed them off beautifully against the cooler greens of a late
summer morning. The quiet, gentle way the boats sat on the mud and the
combination of warm and cool colors captured my attention and made me
want to paint."

Known for her bright outdoor scenes populated with brightly colored depictions
of people, artist Sally Caldwell Fisher now turns her eye to the landscape.
"I have returned to the landscape out of love for the beauty of the
world around me," says the artist. "The human presence is always
implied at the very least. I desire to be a strong unseen presence, involved
in the scene before me." Her lively landscapes have recently been
commissioned for the 2008 Wooden Boat Show in Mystic, Connecticut and
the Yarmouth Clam Festival.

"I've lived in Oregon my entire life," says Rod Frederick. "I
currently live on the mountain side, but for years I lived on the coast.
In late autumn, the sea begins to churn, the weather gets rough and the
landscape is soaked with rain. I love to travel to that side of the state
every once in a while in the fall and see the black-tailed deer emerging
from the forest. The colors of the vine and big leaf maple leaves have
intensified with the rain and the entire atmosphere is charged and heavy.
The black-tailed buck feels the change of seasons acutely; the autumn
has made him aggressive and ready to defend his territory."

Birds of a Feather Flock Together
by Scott Gustafson
"At some point in life," says Scott Gustafson, "we have
all felt like the one who doesn't fit in…the oddball, the ugly duckling.
This painting is a visual explanation of that feeling, for when 'birds
of a feather flock together,' there is always someone left out. What this
little fellow may not know now, but will eventually learn, is that the
swans have a club all of their own."

the misty sky, this beautiful work of art will make an uplifting and inspiring

During the mid-nineteenth century, conflict with resident Native Americans
intensified as settlers continued their westward expansion. This mixed
party of Lakota and Northern Cheyenne warriors stands literally between
the West and an approaching convoy of covered wagons. The skies are dark
and threatening, emphasizing the imminent expansion and conquest of the
Native Americans. They ride out bravely in the setting sun, aware that
it may already be too late to preserve their land and their lives. "The
physical strength of the horses and the daring of the men," says
Z.S. Liang, "combined with the pounding hooves and war cries, generate
a sense of great energy and power in this mounted strike force!"
Those who are fortunate enough to see Z.S. Liang's work in person are
quick to compare him to the great masters of modern Western art, from
Frank McCarthy to Howard Terpning. Within the last year alone, the market
for both Liang's originals and limited editions has erupted. Pueblo
Street Market, 1920s, his last release from
The Greenwich Workshop, was Sold Out at Publisher within thirty days.

the Plains Indians of Frank McCarthy's paintings thunder across the canvas,
hunting buffalo, scouting war parties and protecting their territory.
McCarthy's iconic style and expert composition bring these larger-than-life
legends to life in dramatic works that have defined and inspired a generation
of artists. With this legacy in mind The Greenwich Workshop is pleased

"This painting is about right and wrong," says Emily McPhie.
"Not just knowing the difference, but making the right decision and
having the conviction and confidence to stick to it. The figure in pink
is very sure of herself and her choice; but she's also struck a balance—she's
not all in red and she's not all in white. She understands that the right
decision is also about finding balance in all things and following it,
and that there may not even be one right decision. To quote J.R.R. Tolkien,
'All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given us.'"
The Supermarine Spitfire was a single-seat
fighter used by the British and many other Allied countries during World
War II. Easily identified by its distinctive elliptical wings, the Spitfire
grew to legendary status during the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire performed
so well during the battle and was so beloved by pilots that, unlike other
models, it remained in production through the end of the war.

Into the Arms of the Dragon
by William S. Phillips
As Aircraft 02283 left the deck of the USS Hornet, Captain David
Jones and the rest of Crew 5 had no expectation of return. The brave crewmen
knew that their B-25 did not have the range to complete the run and make
a return trip, and that they would have to try to land on the Chinese
mainland. At a small break in the cloud cover over Chu Chow the members
of Crew 5 left the plane, trusting their parachutes, the wind and the
Chinese people to lead them to safety.
In Chinese folklore the lóng, or dragon, symbolizes all
that is good: abundance, prosperity, good fortune, nobility, and divine
protection, as well as the Chinese people themselves. The dragon is believed
to be the benevolent guardian of water, as well as life-giving rain and
storms. As they tumbled into the stormy night sky, Captain Jones and his
crew entrusted their safety-and their lives-to the arms of the dragon.
The Chinese paid dearly for the aid and shelter they provided to American
soldiers. In the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Campaign, Japanese forces killed an
estimated 250,000 Chinese civilians as retaliation and intimidation to
prevent further assistance of American soldiers. The brave sacrifices
of the Chinese saved many lives and solidified the American people in
their determination to succeed. William S. Phillips inspiring new limited
edition Into the Arms of the Dragon pays tribute to the combined efforts
of two nations. Both the Fine Art Limited Edition Giclée Canvas
and Fine Art Limited Edition Giclée Print of this spectacular image
have been signed by surviving members of Doolittle's Raiders.

In China, red is considered the most auspicious color, bringing prosperity,
honor and good fortune. At the turn of the twentieth century, Chinese
immigrants to the United States incorporated American traditions and inventions
with their own. This young boy is fortunate enough to have a red balloon
of his own, marked with the flag of his new homeland. Mian Situ's evocative,
award-winning portraits cross cultural boundaries and resonate with the
universal human experience.

Of all the great animals of North America, none symbolizes the American
West more than the buffalo. As a source of food and clothing for both
Native Americans and settlers, the buffalo supplied our growing nation
with the raw materials to successfully become the country we are today.
Sadly, they were hunted almost to extinction as human settlements grew
and expanded further westward in the nineteenth century. Strenuous human
effort to protect and re-introduce the wild buffalo over the last hundred
years have proven successful, but the sight of a thundering herd—the
breathtaking sight that greeted so many early Americans-remains rare indeed.
The great herds that once roamed the plains have dwindled, but their place
in the history and mythology of our nation is eternal.
Now wildlife artist Daniel Smith brings his spectacular vision to the
American Buffalo. Thunder and Dust,
his newest Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Limited Edition, celebrates the
majesty and power of these magnificent animals. The original painting,
Smith's entry in this year's Masters of the American West Exhibition and
Sale, was priced at $29,000, but you can bring home the heart of the West
for as little as $1250.

There has never been a better time to purchase a Morgan Weistling Fine
Art Limited Edition. As we write this, five of Weistling's limited editions
have sold out and several more are in Low Inventory, and the market for
his originals is just as hot. For the second year in a row, Weistling
took both the Artists' and Patrons' Choice Awards at the 2008 Masters
of the American West Exhibition and Sale, and his original painting sold
for $286,100—nearly three times the reserve price. The painting?
The First Dance, 1884 Americanaa.
The idea for the painting, begun as a sketchbook drawing years ago, had
taken years to come to fruition. In addition to finding the perfect models,
costumes and composition, Morgan did not want to begin on the painting
until he could give it his full concentration. Finally, one day last year,
he began to create what John Geraghty described in Western Art Collector
as "his signature work, an absolute master work."
Why paint a wedding? "I wanted to celebrate the institution of marriage,"
says Weistling. "I have been married to my lovely wife JoAnn for
17 years. I thought of the commitment we made in front of family and friends
and what a wonderful feeling it would be to do a painting about that."
A celebration this joyous demands a large-scale format..
